My work concerns how non-native filmmakers working in Hollywood appropriate Hollywood codes, conventions, and capital to subvert dominant ideologies, thereby allowing audiences alternative viewing experiences of Hollywood film. the filmmaker I’m most interested in is Guillermo del Toro, and I published my MA thesis on his work, Postmodern Mysticism.
