Britt P. Tevis

Britt P. Tevis holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Her research examines the intersections between Jews and American law with a special emphasis on antisemitism. Her current book project, May It Displease the Court: Jewish Lawyers and the Democratization of American Law, analyzes how Jewish lawyers working between the 1890s and 1930s challenged and consequently reshaped U.S. legal norms. Her other research likewise explores points of conflict between Jews and the state. Her published articles have appeared in American Jewish History, Journal of American History, and the American Journal of Legal History. She has twice (2016, 2022) won the American Jewish Historical Society’s Wasserman Essay Prize for the year’s best article.
