Derri Shtasel

Derri Shtasel, MD MPH (she/her) is an academic-community psychiatrist working on improving mental health care for marginalized communities, integrating principles of public health and the social determinants of health in medical training, and providing psychiatric care for homeless persons. Her work over 40 years has been grounded in principles of equity. She is Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and was the founding director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Division of Public and Community Psychiatry from 2009-2022. She has been honored with awards from the American Psychiatric Association, Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, and MGH’s Outstanding Mentor of Underrepresented in Medicine Award. She has lived and worked in greater Boston for the last twenty-four years.
