Katherine Levine Einstein

Katherine Levine Einstein is an associate professor of political science at Boston University, Faculty Fellow at the Initiative on Cities, and Faculty Affiliate in the African American Studies Program. She studies inequality and American public policy, especially in cities. Her 2019 book, Neighborhood Defenders: Participatory Politics and America’s Housing Crisis (Cambridge University Press, with David Glick and Maxwell Palmer), shows how political inequality makes housing more expensive. She has also published peer-reviewed journal articles on racial discrimination and inequality and urban politics. She currently serves as one of the principal investigators of the Menino Survey of Mayors. Professor Einstein received her BA in political science from Yale University, and her PhD in government and social policy from Harvard University. Her research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Russell Sage Foundation.
