Betke is the codirector of the AI Research Initiative at BU and a professor of computer science. She earned her PhD at MIT. Her research involves computer vision, human-computer interfaces, human computation, and machine learning, and aspires to help overcome racism with Human-AI interaction. Betke currently leads a large NSF-funded project on designing analytic methods for studying visual and textual public information, including news and social media.
