Stacy Seward

Stacy is a current student at the University of Massachusetts Lowell Psychology Department with a concentration in Community and Applied Social Psychology. Her current research interests include anti-racism, performative action, race, class, politics, and culture. Stacy’s current work focuses on the intersection of anti-racist practices, public policy, and the Latine, Black, and Afro-Latine experiences in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Stacy holds a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Psychology and Counseling and a certificate of advanced graduate study in school counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a bachelor’s degree in History and Social Science from North Carolina Central University. Stacy is the founder and Executive Director of The Dream Network in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The organization’s work focuses on racial, educational, and environmental justice through the lens of those impacted by the carceral system and examines local policing, inequities in the court system, and sentencing disparities. Additionally, Stacy has served on the Lawrence School Committee and has participated in research that focuses on the impact of the state takeover of Lawrence public schools. Stacy is the co-author (with Dr. Steven Nelson) of an article published in the third edition of The Local Power & Politics Review titled: The State Takeover of Public Schools as State Preemption: Evidence from Lawrence, Massachusetts. Stacy continues to participate in community-based activities and research to promote racial equity for those living in the Merrimack Valley.
