Steven Dean is a Professor of Law and a Paul Siskind Research Scholar at the Boston University School of Law. His work focuses on the causes and consequences of inequality both domestically and globally, with a particular focus on tax policy and an emphasis on anti-Black racism. He has testified before the U.S House Ways and Means Committee about the impact of race on the policing of taxpayers. His book “For-Profit Philanthropy: Elite Power and the Threat of Limited Liability Companies, Donor-Advised Funds, and Strategic Corporate Giving” (with Dana Brakman Reiser) was published by Oxford University Press in January 2023. He has also published articles and essays in journals such as the NYU Law Review and the Emory Law Journal and has written for a range of publications including The Nation. Before coming to BU, Dean was a Professor of Law and Vice Dean at Brooklyn Law and the Co-Director of its Dennis J. Block Center for the Study of International Business Law. He has also served as the Faculty Director of the NYU School of Law Graduate Tax Program. He serves on the board of the National Tax Association and serves the American Bar Association as a member of the Diversity Committee of its Tax Section.
