Kathryn Bard given an award by the El Museo Liceo Egipcio de León in Spain
The El Museo Liceo Egipcio de León in Spain awarded the MLE of Egyptology Award for the work of cultivation, research and dissemination of Ancient Egypt in any of its disciplines (archaeological, historical, philological, museumor any) of Professor Kathryn Bard.
Award Citation:Kathryn A. Bard (Boston, USA). Professor of Archeology and Classical Studies. She has contributed to the understanding of the predynastic and dynastic periods in Egypt and the rise of the early African civilization of Aksum in northern Ethiopia/Eritrea. Excavations of her in Egypt have yielded data on the origins of ranks, state origins, the organization of state bureaucracies, and the collapse of political systems. She has recently excavated a 4,000-year-old pharaonic port in the Red Sea with intact parts of cedar boats used for maritime expeditions to the Land of Punt. She is the author of numerous mandatory reference works for all specialists. Among other distinctions, she has received the National Geographical Society’s Chairman’s Award for Exploration, (1998) and she belongs to the American Academy of Arts and Science (2010). She is currently a professor of Archeology and Classical Studies at Boston University.
