CAS Mathematics Professor Robert Devaney receives writing award
CAS Math Prof Robert Devaney wins writing award for chaos article

Robert Devaney, a CAS professor of mathematics and statistics, was honored by the Mathematical Association of America for writing excellence during the association’s Summer MathFest, held in Albuquerque, N.M., earlier this month. Devaney received the Trevor Evans Award recognizing authors of exceptional articles that are accessible to undergraduates.
Devaney’s article, “Chaos Rules!” appeared in the November 2004 issue of Math Horizons. It shows readers how to deconstruct as well as construct fractals such as the Sierpinski triangle and carpet.
A widely respected expert in complex dynamical systems, particularly the chaotic behavior of such systems, Devaney received Boston University’s Metcalf Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2003.
