CFA resumes drama at BU Theatre, 1954
After a two-decade lull, in 1954 the Boston University Theatre returned to action

The CFA theater arts program presented its first production at the BU Theatre in 1954: Nicolas Evreinoff’s The Chief Thing. The theatre building was constructed in 1925 as America’s first civic playhouse, but beset by financial trouble, it was used mainly as a movie house in the ’30s and ’40s. BU Photo Services
