Cottle speaks about sense of self at annual Learning and the Brain Conference
SED's Thomas Cottle addressed annual Learning and Brain Conference.
School of Education Professor Thomas Cottle spoke recently at this year’s Learning and the Brain Conference in Cambridge. The School of Education co-sponsored the multi-participant conference; this year’s title was "Molding & Motivating Minds: Using Mind/Brain Research to Enhance Student Performance.” Speakers addressed various social factors involved in shaping people’s minds and brains, mainly focusing on ways to improve student motivation.
Cottle, who is also a sociologist and clinical psychologist, presented the lecture “Sense of Self: The Importance of Self Reflection and Self Awareness,” as an exploration of the meaning of self-reflection in adolescents. He particularly emphasized the important role of affirmation in the development of “the self,” as well connections between self -knowledge and social change.
He is the author of more than 550 articles, essays and reviews as well as 30 books and has received many awards and fellowships in the psychology field.
