Ph.D. student David Montgomery returns from research stint in Central Asia
Ph.D. student David Montgomery (GRS'03,'06) just returned from a yearlong research trip to Asia.

David Montgomery (GRS’03’06), a Ph.D. student in religion, recently returned from a yearlong research trip to Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. He surveyed hundreds of people in the largely Muslim nations, which have a history of political and social oppression. “I look at the way people learn about religion and culture influences their religious and cultural practice,” says Montgomery. “Political events over the last year — an overthrow of the Kyrgyzstan government and mass killings of Andijon residents in Uzbekistan — have created an opportunity for change, which hopefully will result in a better standard of living for locals.”
