Psychologist David Somers cracked a $50,000 puzzle in A Treasure’s Trove
CAS Associate Psychology Professor David Somers used his expertise in vision research to crack a complex code in the popular puzzle book A Treasure’s Trove this summer, leading him and best friend Mark Moeglein (pictured here, left to right) to South Dakota’s Badlands, where they fetched out of a tree’s knothole a token redeemable for a $50,000 diamond-encrusted beetle. Somers, who uses computational modeling to study the mechanisms underlying visual perception and cognition, says the experience will spice up his lectures on problem solving.
