Two vascular surgeons join MED and BMC
Collins, Farber specialize in less invasive procedures

Vascular surgeons Kathryn A. Collins and Alik Farber recently were appointed assistant professors of surgery at the School of Medicine and joined the section of vascular surgery at Boston Medical Center (BMC).
Prior to coming to BU, Collins completed an endovascular fellowship at the New York–Presbyterian Hospitals of Columbia and Cornell. She completed a fellowship in vascular surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital in 2000 and subsequently was an attending surgeon in the department of surgery at Greenwich Hospital/Yale New Haven Health from 2000 to 2005.
A graduate of Rush Medical College in Chicago, she pursued her surgical residency at Ohio State University from 1990 to 1998. She concurrently participated in a graduate research program at the Wexner Center for Research in Columbus, Ohio, earning a Ph.D. in bioengineering.
Collins is board-certified in general surgery and vascular surgery. She specializes in the diagnosis and management of a wide array of arterial and venous vascular problems through both traditional surgical and minimally invasive approaches.
Farber comes to BMC and MED from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he was clinical chief of vascular surgery and an attending surgeon. He was a member of the attending staff in the departments of surgery at Midway Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles and at St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif.
A graduate of Harvard Medical School, Farber pursued an internship and residency in general surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. In 1999, he completed a vascular surgery fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship in endovascular surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
Farber will serve as codirector of endovascular surgery at BMC and codirector of the Vascular Laboratory at BMC and Quincy Medical Center. He is board-certified in general surgery and vascular surgery and is a registered vascular technologist. He performs both conventional surgical procedures and minimally invasive endovascular procedures. He specializes in the minimally invasive treatment of venous disease, carotid disease, aneurysms, and diabetic lower extremity problems.
