Professors Linda Heywood and John Thornton help trace the roots of African Americans for a PBS documentary.

Featured in the PBS documentary African American Lives are Boston University faculty members: Linda Heywood, a College of Arts and Sciences professor of African American studies, and her husband, John Thornton, acting director of the African American Studies Program. The documentary explores subjects’ ancestry through family stories and written documents and finally through mitochondrial DNA testing.
