Name: Justin Breton
From: North Vassalboro, Maine
School: College of General Studies
Intended Major: Marketing and advertising
What convinced you to go to BU?
The school is beautiful and the freedom of no designated campus other than Boston itself was attractive.
What are you most excited about coming to college?
Everything. This is when life really begins and I start on my own. I’m ready to work hard.
What kinds of activities do you want to become involved in?
As always, I will get involved in community service around BU and Boston. I would also like to get involved with the student government and maybe run for an office. I intend to do a semester abroad and will be working hard towards good grades, so hopefully will be a dean’s list student.
What courses are you interested in taking?
Since I’ll be in CGS my first two years, I’m really looking forward to and interested in taking courses in my intended majors. I’m going to be out there searching for internships and job opportunities as soon as they become available. I think I’ll do well in this field and I can’t wait to get my feet wet in all the possibilities in Boston.
What is one of the goals of your first year at BU?
To make lots of friends, get really good grades, receive better financial aid, and work towards making my name more than just a name.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
After I received my financial aid package from BU, I was really disappointed and upset because I wasn’t sure my family would be able to afford the cost of tuition. To benefit my cause, I created an eBay site selling my future and educational desires in increments of $25. To date, I have currently raised over $1,000, and my eBay site, “Make a Student’s Boston University Dream Come True,” is still up and running today. Check it out! I was featured in the Daily Free Press, the Morning Sentinel, the Kennebec Journal, and the Boston Globe.
What will be your first stop when you start exploring the city of Boston?
I’m really not sure. I’m very spontaneous and sometimes random, so it’s really hard for me to select my first stop. Hopefully, whichever stop it may be, I won’t be alone when I make it.
How are you spending your summer vacation?
I will be working at the Lobster Trap and Steakhouse waiting tables and at Flagship Cinemas. Nothing very exciting. I also have my BU orientation and I will probably take several road trips with my friends, numerous beach days, and I’m sure a few parties here and there. I plan to have fun.
