October is National Physical Therapy Month, and Beena Thomas (SAR’08) and her classmates in the Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences third-year physical therapy doctoral program want to make sure the BU community knows what physical therapy is all about. They have put together a program to show students, faculty, staff, and others how physical therapy can help them in their daily lives.
The event, a project for the students’ health-care management course, takes place today from 2 to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Fitness and Recreation Center, 915 Commonwealth Ave. Visitors can learn how to set up an ergonomic computer workstation and manage stress through deep breathing. Free blood pressure screenings, target heart rate calculations, high-level balance assessments, and coordination tests also are being offered.
“Our goal is to promote the diversity of the physical therapy profession,” says Thomas. “There are so many different avenues of physical therapy that people really don’t know about.”
