Three Reasons to Run
BU marathoners on why they do what they do
Only a handful of the runners crossing the Boston Marathon’s starting line in Hopkinton on Monday can seriously hope to win. Everyone else, the tens of thousands who will push themselves over more than 26 miles of what is forecasted to be soggy asphalt, find their inspiration elsewhere.
For some, such as first-time marathoner Kathy Moriarity (CAS’07), that inspiration is the fulfillment of a life goal. For runners like Joshua Cleveland (GSM’07), it’s the thrill of a new challenge. And for others, such as veteran marathoner Molly Saghirian Crellin (GRS’10), a senior teaching fellow in the College of Arts and Sciences department of modern foreign languages and literatures, it’s the chance to be part of the drama, joy, and camaraderie of a world-class race that this year celebrates its 111th running.
