Job: Fiscal Sponsorship Manager
Documentary Educational Resources is seeking a part-time staff person (20 hours/week) to work as part of a small, dynamic, and highly-collaborative team in a relaxed work environment. The position is hybrid, with a minimum of 2 days/week in the office in Watertown. Hours and scheduling are flexible but must include availability during regular business hours for meetings.
The Fiscal Sponsorship Manager serves as the main contact for filmmakers and other media makers in DER’s Fiscal Sponsorship program and manages accounts for approximately 40 projects at any time. While largely documentary film projects, the portfolio includes a variety of book, radio, podcast and youtube projects in varying stages of development from pre-production to outreach. The Fiscal Sponsorship Manager works closely with DER’s Executive Director, Accountant, and Operations Bookkeeper to maintain the most up to date financial records.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ongoing communication with filmmakers including hosting kick-off meetings with new project directors, onboarding new projects, and responding to grant, donation, and account inquiries.
- Maintain updated QuickBooks accounts for each project, including:
- Process incoming grants and donations (checks, ACH’s, PayPal and various crowd-funding platforms) and informing filmmakers. Funds range from Government grants to private Foundation grants, Donor-Advised Funds and individual donations.
- Process filmmaker advance and reimbursement requests. This includes reviewing invoices, tax documentation, and payment information for various vendors, and processing payments.
- Assist in the monthly reconciliation of Fiscal Sponsorship financial accounts (bank and PayPal), annual preparation of 1099s, and tasks related to annual audit and financial reporting.
- Provide general administrative and office support as needed.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified applications will have skills or experience in most, if not all of the following:
- 1-2 years of financial planning and/or management experience, including knowledge of Quickbooks and general bookkeeping practices.
- Must be detail oriented and have the ability to prioritize the most important tasks to meet deadlines.
- A high level of organization to maintain updated accounts.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Familiarity with documentary film and/or film funding.
- Interest in film production and non-profit administration preferred.
This is a part-time, hourly position. Hourly wage is $22-$29/hour depending on experience. Hours are flexible, but must be available during working hours for team meetings.
