Internship: Gallery Operations & Nonprofit Management

The New Hampshire Art Association is seeking an intern. This is an unpaid internship that can offer experience in art gallery operations and nonprofit management.

 The New Hampshire Art Association’s Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery , located at 136 State Street, Portsmouth, NH, will offer interns the opportunity to collaborate closely with the Executive Director, taking an active role in various aspects of the organization. They will have the opportunity to have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to exhibitions, program development, event coordination, and any necessary special projects. 

INTERNSHIP DUTIES

  • Exhibitions: Acquire knowledge in exhibition design, art installation, artist communication, and lighting techniques.
  • Gallery Management: Gain insights by shadowing the Executive Director in volunteer management, fundraising strategies, membership coordination, art sales, and event planning.
  • Graphic Design and Writing: Apply your skills with guidance and mentorship from the Executive Director and other experienced staff members.
  • Curation: Select opportunities to collaborate with exhibition jurors and shadow the NHAA curatorial team to understand the intricacies of curating art exhibitions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for the arts and a keen interest in gaining knowledge within the non-profit creative sector.

INTERNSHIP SCHEDULE

  • We offer internships during the following periods:
    • Spring 2024: February to May
    • Summer 2024: June to August
    • Fall 2024: September to December
  • The internship entails a commitment of 10 to 20 hours per week, with the flexibility to align with the stipulations of BUMET. The specific hours and days can be discussed and negotiated to accommodate individual needs.
  • While we have a preference for in-person participation, we can consider remote arrangements on a case-by-case basis.
