Jingyi Wang (’18)
Driven by her love and passion for art, Jingyi Wang, a student from southern China, is now a graduate of Boston University’s Arts Administration master’s program. After years of training in the D’Amore-McKim School of Business with a minor in art at Northeastern University, Jingyi resolved to immerse herself in Boston University’s program to connect what she had learned with what she loves.
Along with two years of work experience in accounting, Jingyi volunteered at the Northeastern 360 gallery and interned at the Chinese Contemporary Art Foundation (CCAF) in New York as an undergraduate. She later interned at the Chinese National Museum in the Art and Curator Department last summer. These invaluable experiences exposed her to art management and influenced her to pursue arts administration. Rather than being limited to nonprofits, Jingyi also wants to experience and explore various types of arts organizations. In her spare time, she enjoys visiting museums, reading, and taking photos. She is particularly interested in the Baroque period in Northern Europe, contemporary global art, and the development of the female artist throughout history.
I was inspired by a Hermann Hesse reading, “The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world.” For me, through seizing the opportunity to join the program in Arts Administration at Boston University, I discovered a new world in which I could achieve my goals throughout my life. At BU, I, like Hesse’s bird, contributed years of work experience in business, critical thinking, analytic skills, strong relationships in the business environment, and an unremitting passion for global art. Through BU’s Arts Admin program I was able to put this enthusiasm and potential to good use for the advancement of the arts in global community.
