OPPORTUNITIES: AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF INDIAN STUDIES Short Term Winter Fellowships

The winter short-term competition of the American Institute of Indian Studies is open only to faculty members (including full year visiting appointments) and persons holding the Ph.D. who are receiving a salary on a regular basis from a member institution of the American Institute of Indian Studies.  It is one of the special perks of membership in the Institute.

Awards in rupees are contingent upon the extent of funding received by the Institute.  Short-term grant award periods range from 1 to 4 months and include maintenance stipend, research allowance, and international travel.  No dependent support or travel is possible under the short-term grants.  Awards are designed for support of research projects and will not be granted to applicants seeking travel funds for conference participation.

The deadline for applications is December 31.  Applicants use the regular application located on the web site www.indiastudies.org.  Applications must be filled out in full to satisfy Selection Committee requirements. Application materials and recommendation letters must be submitted using the applications portal; paper applications are no longer accepted. A check or money order for $25.00, made payable to the American Institute of Indian Studies must be sent to AIIS to cover the processing fee.

Funds received by the Institute for support of its programs are granted by various agencies and are subject to unanticipated reductions.  All fellowship recipients must have received their certificate of affiliation with an Indian institution prior to commencing their fellowship. AIIS will obtain these certificates for fellows. We plan to notify all applicants about the Selection Committee’s decisions in the spring.  Fellowship funds will be available to complete the project for a 19-month period from June 1, 2015 to December 31, 2016.
