OPPORTUNITIES: WorldTeach – Opportunities for students to teach in China
WorldTeach, a non-profit organization that started at Harvard University in 1986, partners with ministries of education across the globe to provide volunteer teachers to fill educational needs that the ministry has self-identified. New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof mentioned WorldTeach as he promoted the importance of young Americans living and working abroad for a year.
Through our partnership with the Hunan Provincial Government, WorldTeach places volunteers as full-time English teachers in public schools for either a summer or a year:
China Hunan Year – Teach English in middle schools; depart in August, return July 2016. Bachelor’s degree required. Program is funded by Hunan Provincial Government, therefore there is no volunteer fee however volunteer is responsible for their airfare. Hunan government funding covers housing, monthly stipend, visa, and additional support items listed below. Applications are currently being accepted until May 15th.
Nepal Summer – Teach English at summer camps; depart 6/24/15, return 8/20/15. Program is not funded as time duration is too short for our partner to fund, therefore the volunteer fee is $3,990 plus airfare. Applications are currently being accepted until May 1st.
“You will create a bond with your host country that will last a life time, and with your students and teachers. You will learn how much you are able to handle, how to adapt to new situations, and hopefully the native language. Despite the good and the bad, if you are looking for an experience that will push you to discover who you are and what you are made of, do WorldTeach. Even if you don’t plan on being a teacher, I would still highly suggest this program. They will teach and train you to be an amazing teacher, you just have to have the guts to try.” WorldTeach Alum
