Sample Program Outlines for Astronomy-Based Majors

The following example 4-year programs for the Astronomy major and the Astronomy and Physics major can provide guidance on pathways through the majors to the BA degree. Note that each real student’s profile is distinct, so working with your Astronomy academic advisor faculty member is essential for avoiding difficulties and for finding opportunities.

These examples fall into three main cases (A, B, and C) that each depend on how much (or little) calculus exposure a student received in high school, including obtaining AP credits.

Example Program “A” —

• Students Matriculating With CAS MA 123 or AP Calculus AB Credit

• Students Matriculating Without CAS MA 123 or AP Calculus AB Credit, But With a Year of High School Calculus
