NIH-funded Postdoctoral Research Position at UC Berkeley School of Optometry
An NIH-funded postdoctoral research position is available immediately in the laboratory of
Karsten Gronert at University of California Berkeley, School of Optometry, Vision Science
Graduate Program. Research in the Gronert Lab is focused on the formation, role and
mechanism of actions of lipid mediators in ocular innate/adaptive immune responses and
neuroprotection. The research project is focused on a newly discovered lipid mediator circuit in
the retina that maintains neuronal homeostasis and protects the retina against optic
neuropathy. The focus of the project is to characterize this novel neuroprotective network,
define its mechanisms of action and explore the efficacy of amplifying the lipid circuit as a
therapeutic target. The successful candidate is expected to design and conduct experiments,
develop methods, analyze results and write manuscripts. Candidates should have a PhD or
equivalent degree be highly motivated, self-driven and have excellent communication (verbal
and written) skills.
Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, brief statement of research background
and interests and contact information for three references. Applications and and/or question
should be send to Karsten Gronert (kgronert@berkeley.edu)
