Rand Morris joined Boston University as an adjunct faculty member in fall 2020. Rand received his master’s in architecture from Roger Williams University. Beginning his design career interning for architecture firms around the country including the world-renowned firm, Olson Kundig Architects, Rand ultimately discovered his passion for interior design and branding while working as a designer at Starbucks Coffee Company in Seattle, WA. Here, Rand spent two years working for the Global China Design Studio, designing high-profile and Reserve-brand café environments in some of China’s premier markets. Following this, Rand spent three years working for the company’s America’s Concepts Design Studio, designing future-state store concepts for the company at large. Many of these concepts can still be seen in stores today.

Rand now resides in Newburyport, MA with his husband. He is currently the Environments Design Director at local branding and design firm, Proportion Design, specializing in hospitality, retail, cannabis, and lifestyle-oriented projects. Rand is interested in the relationship between human psychology, experiential hospitality/retail environments, and food and beverage innovation. Rand is also a proponent of historic preservation/adaptive reuse, advocating for the critical role that existing spaces will play in a more sustainable and equitable future across all industries.
