Jamie Li Awarded First Place in Undergrad Presentation Category at Meeting of American Society of Plant Biologists

BMB senior, Jamie Li, of the Celenza lab, was recently awarded first place in the undergraduate students’ presentation category at the 85th annual meeting of the Northeastern Section of the American Society of Plant Biologists. Jamie’s talk was entitled: “Temperature Regulation of Anti-herbivory Defense Compounds in Arabidopsis thaliana“.
From Jamie: “Using Arabidopsis thaliana as the model system, my project looked at how plants use secondary metabolites as a defense mechanism against biotic and abiotic stress. We found that under heat stress, the production of glucosinolate, an anti-herbivory compound, was drastically increased. Using HPLC and RT-qPCR, we found that the transcription factor MYB51 was involved in this temperature regulation.”
Congratulations to Jamie on this award!
