Dima Kozakov leads the Applied BioComputation (ABC) Group at Stony Brook University. His group combines applied mathematics, physics and computational biology to answer challenging questions in biology and chemistry, on topics including protein-peptide interactions, Fast Fourier Transforms (FFTs) on manifolds, antibody maturation, manifold optimization and so on. In addition to BMERC, the ABC Group is also affiliated with Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology and Institute for Advanced Computational Sciences

Research Areas

  • The development of algorithms to model macromolecular structures and functions, which are mathematically elegant, computationally efficient and also physically accurate, such as advanced fourier and optimization techniques.
  • Application of novel methods to solve biological problems and to design therapeutic molecules with desired biological properties (for example, structure-based in silico antibody engineering, fragment-based drug-design approaches, etc.).
