And the home of the . . . Terriers. Last weekend the Atlanta Braves were in town to play the Red Sox at Fenway Park for the first time since an exhibition game in 1960. (They were the Milwaukee Braves back then.) The trip would have been a lot less strenuous 45 years ago: until 1953 the team was the Boston Braves, and Braves Field -- the present site of Boston University's Nickerson Field -- was just a quick ride to Fenway on the MTA. Boston's National League team played at Braves Field from 1915 until the move to Milwaukee, and BU bought the field, stands, and office building in 1954, eventually turning it into what we know as the West Campus complex. The photo shows painters renaming the field in May 1954. Those railroad tracks are now in the shadow of the Massachusetts Turnpike Extension.
