Athletes of the Week
Chris Bone, Nick Bone, and Candice Lilienfeld
The Bone brothers not only scored both of the Terriers'
goals in their 2-1 soccer victory over Vermont on October
24, they also combined for Boston University's first goal:
cocaptain Nick Bone (SMG'98) was credited with an assist
when his younger brother put BU on the board.
Midfielder Chris Bone (COM'01) scored the only goal of
the first half. But Vermont's Mark De Casiro tied the game
in the 64th minute. Then with six minutes left in
regulation, Nick Bone scored the game-winner off a penalty
kick.
Nick, BU's all-time leading scorer, is only the second
player in University history to surpass the 100-point
plateau. Last season he finished fourth in the New England
region in goals scored and total points. Both brothers are
from Newcastle, England.
In high school Chris collected 63 goals in three years
with St. Cuthbert's -- also his brother's alma mater. He
helped the team capture the Northumberland County League
title in 1996 and 1997.
Field hockey forward Candice Lilienfeld (COM'99), who
leads the Terriers with 10 goals this season, scored 3 of
them in her last two games. Against New Hampshire October 24
she scored twice -- the game's first and last goals -- as BU
cruised to a 3-0 victory.
Boston University, hosting Vermont on October 26, got on
the scoreboard in just under four minutes when midfielder
Jessica Alcorta (SED'00) passed to an open Lilienfeld, who
scored another game-winning goal. The Terriers scored three
more times for a 4-0 shutout, evening their overall record
at 8-8. BU is 5-3 in America East play and in fourth place.
Lilienfeld, from North Dartmouth, Mass., had scored a total
of nine goals in her first two seasons.
