BUILDing reading. The Boston University Initiative for Literary Development (BUILD), a program that provides BU student tutors to 15 sites in Boston and Chelsea to support literacy development among elementary schoolchildren, gave gift books last month to some of the children who participate in the program. The books were funded by a gift from the Boston Celtics organization. Gina Compitello, BUILD graduate student coordinator, gives books to children in the after-school program at the Faneuil Gardens housing development in Brighton, one of BUILD's community-based sites; BUILD also has tutors in public schools and at Boston Medical Center.
