D. Brenton Simons
D. Brenton Simons (CGS’86, COM’88, Wheelock’94) of Boston, Mass., is the longtime president and CEO of American Ancestors/New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS). In October 2021, he received the first-ever John Adams Medal from the Sons of the Revolution in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This award recognizes an individual for outstanding merit and lifetime achievement in the leadership of an institution—societies, museums, archives, agencies, and other entities—that advances scholarship in the study of American history, including national, regional or local history, genealogy, military history, New England history, and related topics. He also was honored with The History Medal, presented by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In December, he received the Bradford Award from the Pilgrim Hall Museum in Plymouth, Mass., for his work in commemorating the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the Mayflower and, concurrently, for work in promoting the history of the indigenous Wampanoag people.
