Volunteering

Each year, BUCLD relies on the help of student volunteers both before and during conference weekend. This year’s conference will run from Thursday, November 7 to Sunday, November 10, 2024.

Volunteering for the conference is a great way for both undergraduate and graduate students of linguistics at Boston University to experience the behind-the-scenes atmosphere of a language development conference as well as partake in the conference itself.  Moreover, there are some added benefits to volunteering, such as adding a line to your CV, getting some visibility as an emerging scholar, and potentially making connections with some of the biggest names in language development. Additionally, volunteering with BUCLD can count towards volunteer hours requirements.

Student volunteers at BUCLD receive free admission to the entire conference. If you are a BU student interested in volunteering, please contact Aditya Yedetore (yedetore@bu.edu) or Rebecca Bonney (rdbonney@bu.edu), our Co-Organizers.

This year, areas in which volunteers assist us are registration (preparing attendee packets and running the tables on-site) and chairing sessions (introducing speakers, monitoring the timing for each talk, overseeing that the talk runs smoothly and contacting conference organizers if needed).  Volunteers will be responsible for attending a brief 30 minute training in late October and 4 hours of time during the conference.
