Finding an Internship
CAS students have interned in some pretty exciting places. The EL Connector gathered a crowd-sourced internship list where current students and recent alumni have interned. Most internship sites listed are off-campus, but there are some BU-based internships included; those have light red highlighting.
The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) defines an internship as “a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional workplace setting.” High quality internships provide opportunities to:
- gain valuable applied experience
- develop social capital
- explore career fields
- make connections in professional fields
- be part of a significant recruiting mechanism for employers
There are many resources available to CAS undergraduates seeking an internship, both on campus and off. It is highly recommended that you begin your search with BU’s Center for Career Development. CCD staff offer individual consultations and workshops, as well as resume and cover letter review.
Off-Campus Internships
It can take a lot of time and persistence to find an off-campus that works for you. But you’re not alone in this process! Remember to take advantage of the support available to you as a CAS undergraduate.
Check out Handshake for a list of current opportunities. You can browse by industry, organizations, and positions of interest.
Many undergraduates have also had success funding internships by networking through BU Connects. Use the platform to connect with BU and CAS alumni working in fields that interest you.
Also, be sure to view the Connector’s crowd-sourced list of where CAS undergraduates have interned in the past. The list is Kerberos-password protected, and you can filter it by major or type of internship. Feel free to contact the students listed to learn more about their experience.
In addition, expand the menus below to view off-campus internships offered through BU offices as well as lists of discipline-specific internships, curated by academic departments and programs.

On-Campus Internships
Interning at BU is not only convenient (talk about a short commute!) but also has the added benefit of introducing you to aspects of the University you might not otherwise see. Students who intern on campus gain exposure to the higher education system, along with the specific functions of the office in which they’re placed.
Expand the menu below for a list of BU offices that offer internships to current undergrads. Contact them directly for further information.

You’ll also want to peruse the on-campus placements offered in partnership with the EL Connector’s CAS Internship Program, which offers course credit which you intern.
Course Credit for Internships
The CAS Internship Program offers a two-credit course (CAS IN 299) that CAS undergraduates can take alongside an approved internship. In addition, various CAS departments or programs have credit-bearing internship courses available to their majors/minors. Expand the menu below to find out more.
