How to Schedule an Advisor Appointment in Handshake
There are two ways to schedule an appointment using Handshake. Students can use either the website or the app:
Website
- Log into Handshake using your BU credentials.
- Select ‘Career Center,’ then ‘Appointments,’ then ‘Schedule New Appointment,’ then ‘CAS Academic Advising.’
- Select the type of appointment you are looking for (‘CAS: Undeclared Advising,’ ‘CAS: General Advising,’ etc.).
- Select a date and time that works for your schedule. If you have an assigned advisor within our office, be sure to select your advisor’s availability.
- Please provide a detailed explanation of the meeting purpose, so your advisor can prepare for your meeting, and click ‘Request’ to schedule.

App
- Open the Handshake app and sign in using your BU credentials.
- Find ‘Account’ at the bottom of the screen, select ‘Career Center,’ then ‘Appointments,’ then ‘Schedule New Appointment.’
- Select the type of appointment you are looking for (‘CAS: Undeclared Advising,’ ‘CAS: General Advising,’ etc.).
- Select a date and time that works for your schedule. If you have an assigned advisor within our office, be sure to select your advisor’s availability.
- Please provide a detailed explanation of the meeting purpose, so your advisor can prepare for your meeting, and click ‘Request’ to schedule.

At the Time of Your Appointment:
- In-person: Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to check-in. If you arrive 10 minutes late or more, you will be considered a no-show and will need to reschedule.
- Virtual: Log into Handshake and go to the ‘Appointments’ page. Select the appointment, then click the Zoom link listed. If you arrive 10 minutes late or more, you will be considered a no-show and will need to reschedule.
Cancelling, Rescheduling, or Switching Formats of Your Appointment
- To cancel an appointment, go to ‘Appointments.’ Click on the appointment, then click the red ‘Cancel’ button. Feel free to leave a message for the advisor if applicable. ** If you need to cancel with less than 18 hours notification, you will need to ‘request’ a cancellation through Handshake.
- To reschedule an appointment, you will first need to cancel your existing appointment and then schedule a new one.
- If you need to switch formats (virtual or in person) after scheduling your appointment, please email the advisor or comment on the appointment itself.
