FMHT Workshop: Refugee Resettlement, Between Policy and Practice

Since 2015, the US refugee resettlement program has once again risen to political prominence, attracting more attention from policymakers, legal experts, and the general public than it has in decades. In the preceding decade, efforts to research and study refugee issues largely centered on developing host countries, or European contexts. The Pardee School Initiative on Forced Migration and Human Trafficking invites you to a participatory workshop on July 14-15 to explore topics surrounding the US refugee resettlement program, with the goal of generating insights and research agendas for a policy report to be disseminated globally.   The workshop is part of the Jean Monnet Innovation series, generously funded by a grant from the European Commission. At the workshop, we will host a keynote speaker and welcome reception on July 14, and an all-day workshop covering a variety of topics on July 15. We are excited to announce Nina Zelic as our Keynote Speaker at the welcome reception on July 14. Ms. Zelic is currently the Director of Refugee Services at Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service. Discussions will be led by experts in each area. Invited participants include practitioners, policymakers, academics and researchers, as well as representatives from European consulates in the Boston area. Preliminary topics of conversation include: Local Integration Cultural Perceptions of Refugees Refugee Law in the US The Role of Research and Innovation Please email migrant@bu.edu for instructions to register for the workshop.
Location:
Pardee School of Global Studies, 121 Bay State Rd.
