CAS D&I began operating as an office in January 2021. The CAS D&I Office is a primary source for CAS’s strategic diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) goals, and for community members seeking guidance and support. Our goal is to meaningfully engage students, faculty, and staff in prioritizing the values of DEI in their intellectual and creative endeavors, community engagement, and daily practices.
Why would I contact the CAS D&I Office?
The CAS D&I Office is here to provide guidance and support when you need:
- To discuss areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion where you are hoping to build greater awareness and capacity
- To request assistance developing and/or refining departmental initiatives focused on diversification
- To consult regarding equitable hiring practices
- To address concerns related to bias
- To assist with publicizing CAS-focused diversity, equity, and inclusion-themed programs and events
- To speak with the Deputy Title IX Coordinator about discrimination and harassment issues
What are the main functions of the Associate Dean of D&I?
The Associate Dean of D&I:
- Advises the Dean of the College on diversity, equity and inclusion-related matters
- Helps define strategic priorities, and develop and implement policy to advance the College’s commitment to diversity and inclusion
- Provides strategic consultations for faculty, staff, and students, including concerns related to climate, hiring, creation of pipeline programs, and curriculum
- Oversees the Diversity and Inclusion Action Team
- Supervises the Deputy Title IX Coordinator
- Shares relevant professional development and community engagement resources with CAS community members
