Please briefly introduce yourself, what’s your background, and where are you from?
I’m Smridhi, hailing from the charming city of Panipat, nestled near Delhi, India. My childhood was marked by an insatiable fascination with science and a relentless curiosity about the inner workings of the world. Surprisingly, I found myself as the sole science enthusiast in my immediate circle. Undeterred by the lack of scientific influences around me, my innate curiosity guided me onto a path in the realm of science. This led me to pursue both my undergraduate and master’s degrees in Physics at the prestigious University of Delhi.
Why did you choose to come to BU GRS for your graduate degree?
Selecting BU for my graduate degree was a natural choice. BU boasts a stellar reputation for STEM programs, and Boston itself is a thriving hub for top-tier education. The city is brimming with opportunities, making it an ideal environment to further my academic pursuits.
What are your favorite spots on the BU Campus?
Among the myriad spots on BU’s vibrant campus, two hold a special place in my heart. The BU Beach is my go-to destination for unwinding, whether it’s a leisurely walk or just some quality “me” time. On the flip side, the Pavement coffee house is my indoor haven. It’s where I can enjoy a warm beverage while engaging in meaningful conversations or taking a moment to reflect on my day.
What is your favorite part about attending BU and studying in the US?
What I love most about being at BU and studying in the US is the wide range of chances I get. Every day, I have new opportunities to learn, develop, and explore. Whether I’m diving into my studies or experiencing the diverse culture of Boston, there’s always something interesting happening. This constant sense of finding new things and growing personally is what really energizes me.
How is life in Boston?
Living in Boston is a constant journey of discovery and connection. What sets this city apart is the incredible community I’ve built around me. Every day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and experience something new, whether it’s immersing in the vibrant summer water activities or exploring the charming neighborhoods and hidden gems that Boston has to offer.
What truly enriches my life here is the close-knit circle of friends who have become like family. Together, we embrace cultural exchanges, sharing our backgrounds and experiences, and we’re always eager to dive into new adventures. This strong sense of community extends beyond leisure—it’s a network of support, academically and emotionally, that makes every day in Boston even more meaningful.
Amidst the hustle and bustle of city life, I also find solace in my passions for yoga and painting, which add an extra layer of fulfillment to my daily experiences in this vibrant city.
What do you hope to do after you graduate?
After I graduate, my goal is to contribute to the industry in the field of nanodevices and metamaterials. I aim to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications, providing tangible benefits through my research. Ultimately, I want to contribute to advancing technology and innovation in these fields.
