20 Computing & Data Science Students Enter Avanade STEM Scholarship Program

In celebration of innovation the future of work, a group of twenty students from Boston University's Computing & Data Science (CDS) program has been selected as Avanade STEM Scholarship Ambassadors and Fellows. Since its inception in 2015, the scholarship program, whose mission is to enable young people (especially young women) to "achieve more through the power of our people and digital innovation," has provided scholarships to over 120 young women from 16 universities around the world, added 80 mentees, with 12 students hired by Avanade.

During the December 2023 reception held at Boston University's newly constructed Center for Computing & Data Sciences, students, faculty, and staff gathered to celebrate the new partnership and the 20 student scholarship recipients.

"Avanade’s mission is in perfect alignment in our goals of widening the pipeline and closing the skills gap," said CDS Associate Provost Azer Bestavros during the reception. "We are proud to be part of the Avanade program and are looking forward to a great year ahead."

The partnership is Avanade is intended to inspire the business and technology leaders of the future with a focus on the future digital workforce, and in particular the diversity of that workforce. According to Bestavros, the inaugural BU program welcomed over 70 applicants and final selection was based on personal statements and academic performance of mostly first- and second-year students.

Access to industry leaders, mentorship, retain them so they flourish.

Scholarship recipients will participate in mentorship, Microsoft technical training and certification, and internship opportunities offered through the Avanade STEM Scholarship Global Network.

"[Azer Bestavros'] instrumental role in bringing the STEM program to life is invaluable, and we are grateful for the effort and support from the entire Boston University team," said Michael Cyprien, Avanade Financial Services Group Manager. "We are proud to be part of this journey and appreciate the partnership and collective dedication."

Congratulations to our BU Computing & Data Sciences student recipients!
