CDS Spring Fling Reflections & Inspirations from Emma Steel

Emma Steel is the incoming CDS Student Government President. In this point of view, Steel offers a recap on recent events and a look at the academic year ahead.

Earlier this month, CDS Student Government (StuGov) hosted our first Spring Fling Dance on the 17th floor of the Center for Computing & Data Sciences. The evening event welcomed 60+ data science majors and minors and shined a bright light on our CDS community.

Our vision was to create a space for students to come together for an evening of dancing, food, fun, and friendship, and for all to take a small but meaningful break from studying. Mission accomplished.

CDS StuGov was created two years ago and this year’s Spring Fling was our first major event. Being able to foster community and inclusivity within CDS is one of the main reasons I became involved in student government. It was truly rewarding to see everyone come together and celebrate another great semester with our CDS community. We danced, we laughed, we won raffle prizes, and we connected.

The Spring Fling was so much fun. The executive board is looking forward to next year’s spring 2025 semester celebration and a roster of events and activities between now and then.
