CDS StuGov 2024-25: A Year of Growth, Mentorship, and Community

Voice of Emma Steel, BU Computing & Data Sciences Student Government President

Welcome back, CDS community! As we gear up for an exciting new semester, we’re thrilled to reflect on the growth and progress of Student Government and share our vision for what lies ahead. Over the past year, our team has expanded both in size and impact, and we’re more determined than ever to strengthen our engagement and advocacy for all students. This year, we aim to broaden participation across CDS through a variety of professional and social initiatives that cater to diverse interests.

Emma Steel, BU CDS Student Government 2024One of our biggest new ventures is the launch of our mentorship program. We’ll be pairing freshmen and sophomores with upperclassmen mentors to help navigate the complexities of classes, internships, and campus life. Whether it’s advice on academics or someone to lean on, we want every student to feel supported. In terms of professional development, expect insightful internship panels, resume reviews, and free professional headshots. We’re also introducing new meetings for students to share feedback on what’s working well within CDS and areas for growth. Your voice is crucial in shaping our collective experience, and we’re here to listen and advocate on your behalf.

On the social side, we’re planning plenty of opportunities to connect and unwind. From midterm and finals week de-stress events to trivia nights, movie nights, and speed friendshiping (think speed dating but for making friends), there’s something for everyone. We invite all CDS students to get involved, whether by volunteering to help with events, participating in our initiatives, or simply joining in on the fun. Let’s make this year one of community, growth, and shared success!
