Lisa Wobbes

Clinical Assistant Professor of Computing & Data Sciences

Lisa Wobbes is a clinical assistant professor in the Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences (CDS), which she joined in the Fall of 2023.

Lisa has a background in applied mathematics and data science. She received her PhD in applied mathematics from Delft University of Technology in 2019, advised by Matthias Möller and Kees Vuik. The focus of her PhD work was on fundamental improvements to a numerical modeling method known as the material point method. In addition to her PhD research, Lisa taught courses and supervised master’s students.

After her PhD, Lisa worked as a data scientist at the Dutch Executive Agency for Education in the Hague. There she gained experience working with classical data-science techniques. One of her main objective was the development of a system for the distribution of government subsidies based on students' data. Furthermore, she initiated and co-supervised bachelor’s and master’s projects related to educational data science.

Prior to joining BU, Lisa worked as a research engineer at a small consulting/engineering company, where she closely collaborated with researchers from Brown, Rice, and Waseda universities. Her work included building cutting-edge simulations for modal analysis and fluid dynamics. Lisa also created video tutorials to improve the accessibility of the simulation approach.
