“Let your light be a source of inspiration, encouraging others to shine even brighter." Join us on Friday, November 1, from 7 to 9 PM in CDS 1750, to celebrate Diwali, the Indian festival that epitomizes the rich cultural heritage of India and its deep-rooted cultural philosophy of the victory of good over evil. The event will feature vibrant decorations, traditional music and dance performances, delicious Indian cuisine, and an evening filled with fun, warmth, and joy. Come experience the rich cultural traditions of Diwali with us! About Diwali: The festival’s celebration originates with Lord Rama returning to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravana. It is a five day long festival where people clean their homes, decorate it with flowers, diyas (oil lamps) and rangoli. Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom is worshiped at the beginning and Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity, is worshiped on the main night of Diwali. Families invite the god and goddess by offering sweets, fruits, and flowers, along with the lighting of diyas to create an atmosphere of warmth and welcome. Beyond the religious significance, Diwali promotes the value of community and brings families together. It encourages kindness by sharing sweets and gifts. And lastly, it also is a time for joy, reflection, gratitude and hope, reminding us to spread positivity and embrace the goodness that exists within and around us. Celebrate Indian culture and learn about Indian traditions while making unforgettable memories. Registration is required. Event Details: Welcome Tilak, Rangoli Making Activity, Henna Designs Activity, Dance Performance, Indian Snacks, Music & Dance.
