JM Howey

JM Howey (born in New Jersey, currently residing in New York City) has had solo shows at Bureau (New York), Standard (Oslo), Armada (Milan), Taxter & Spengemann (New York), and Marginal Utility (Philadelphia). Howey’s work has been included in exhibitions at The Kitchen (New York), Night Gallery (Los Angeles), Staatliche Kunstsammlungen (Dresden), and Team Gallery (New York). Writing on Howey’s work has appeared in Artforum, Hyperallergic, = = (Capricious Publishing), Klassekampen, Kunstritikk, and Paper Monument.

Howey’s paintings, fabric design, furniture, exhibition posters, and ceramic picture frames thematize a struggle to rationalize the relationship between individuality and collectivity, criticality and complicity, artist and art world, painter and painting, educator and academic institution.
