Director of Communications

Laurel Mayer Homer leads the communications team at Boston University College of Fine Arts. A strategic communications and marketing professional, Laurel has shaped the identity of CFA and increased its visibility through the thoughtful development of brand strategy and multi-platform campaigns. A committed storyteller, Laurel focuses on words, images, and designs to position, highlight, and celebrate the work of the College, its students, alumni, and faculty.

Over the last decade plus at Boston University, Laurel has built the foundation of the communications arm of the College and developed professional infrastructure to support a holistic approach to brand and storytelling rooted in editorial, social, web, video & media production, photography, advertising, event promotion, and public relations.

Notable accomplishments include: the 2022 relaunch of the College’s website including fresh content, integrated editorial and video, and a devised system to maintain the site; the redevelopment of the College’s biannual, award-winning publication, CFA magazine; the addition of award-winning media production to the communications portfolio including the production of 100+ videos about the College, students, faculty, alumni, and programs; refined promotion strategy for large-scale events such as annual Symphony Hall concert resulting in sold-out performance; a brand partner in the positioning and messaging of Booth Theatre upon its unveiling in 2017 as well the College’s facade renovation in 2021; an increase in the College’s social footprint making it among the most followed handles at BU; the creation of a comprehensive brand identity kit and style guides; and coverage for the College and its programs in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, The Hollywood Reporter, Backstage, and Variety, as well as appearances in rankings lists.

Prior to BU, Laurel led a Boston-based communications agency specialized in communications and brand strategy, marketing campaigns, and editorial content. She previously held the position of Senior Development Communications Officer at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston as well as Director of Marketing for Imark Communications where she headed communications strategy for three national brands.

A proud and passionate Terrier, Laurel graduated from Boston University as a Cardinal Medeiros Scholar with degrees in English and journalism.
