Mark McEwen joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra oboe section in September 1996. Previous Principal Oboe positions include those of the Florida Orchestra, the Music Festivals of Taipei and Elora, and the Orchester Staatsbad Meinberg in Germany. He has also performed extensively with the Milwaukee Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony, and was the english horn of the Santa Fe Opera for two seasons.

He has performed as soloist with the Boston Classical Orchestra, and frequently in varied chamber music concerts with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players and the BSO’s Prelude series. An alumnus of the Tanglewood Music Center, McEwen has also held fellowships at the Aspen Music Festival and with the Colorado Philharmonic.

A student of Gordie Howe, James Mason and John de Lancie, with whom he studied at the Curtis Institute of Music, Mr. McEwen is on the faculties of the New England Conservatory and Boston University.
