
Matthew Wright

New Orleans trombonist Matthew Wright has been playing with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra since 2011, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra since 2008, and has played all over the world in orchestras, big bands, and chamber ensembles. He is on the 2024 Grammy-winning recording Live at the Orpheum Theatre with the LPO and Lost Bayou Ramblers and was in the first horn section to play with the band Cake. He was a soloist with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, and he had to be dressed as Santa Claus. He was a soloist on the Vermont Symphony Orchestra summer tour, and he forgot his pants for one show. He regularly brags about playing with The Who, James Moody, Bela Fleck, Derek Smalls, Yo Yo Ma, and Randy Newman. As a composer, Matthew has written and arranged many pieces for his own solo recitals as well as for Versipel New Music.
Matthew is on faculty at the Boston University at Tanglewood Institute as Coaching Faculty, Loyola University, the University of New Orleans, and Tulane University. He holds degrees from Temple University (BM), Manhattan School of Music (MM), and Yale University (AD).
