Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre Wins Best Overall Project by Architectural Engineering Institute

Boston University’s Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre and the engineering firm Vanderweil Engineers which provided the engineering, energy modeling, and LEED consulting for the construction of Booth Theatre has received several accolades from the Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI)’s 2022 Professional Project Awards.
Announced this month (April 2022) at the AEI virtual awards ceremony, Booth Theatre received the following awards:
- Best Overall Project (under 100 million)
- Award of Excellence – Architectural Engineering Integration
- Award of Merit – Construction Management and Methods
- Award of Merit – Structural Systems Design
The Professional Project Awards showcase the best and brightest of the current design and construction landscape. The projects submitted highlight not only the ingenuity and technical knowledge of architectural engineers around the world but the leaps the profession is taking and the baseline for what projects will look like as we move into a more advanced built world.

The 250-seat Boston University Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre is located at the heart of the Charles River campus at 820 Commonwealth Ave., Brookline. The purposeful, flexible design of Booth Theatre, which adjoins the College of Fine Arts Production Center, fully transforms for each production, allowing for unique performance and audience experiences.
