Beyond the Classroom: Faith Garcia (CFA’23)

My internship at Bajibot
In CFA’s Beyond the Classroom Series, music, theatre, and visual arts students at BU share their work experiences. These Terriers express how the resources at BU prepared them for success beyond the classroom.
From Long Island, New York, Faith Garcia (CFA’23) moved to Boston to study graphic design at BU. Now after three years, Faith, a soon-to-be alum, looks back at her time with BU School of Visual Arts, where she’s learned the art of collaboration, adapting to new mediums and techniques, and enjoying not just the final product, but the creative process.
Faith has also learned about client relations, branding, and web design through her internship with New York City-based creative agency, Bajibot, named a 2022 best digital marketing agency in New York City by Expertise.com. The agency focuses on web3, campaign ideation, branding, and web design.
In CFA’s Student Internship Series, Faith talks with CFA about her role in the internship, helping create campaigns for organizations like AT&T, and expresses her gratitude for being trusted and respected as an up-and-coming artist.
Q&A
WITH FAITH GARCIA (CFA’23)
CFA: What’s your role in the internship? What are your responsibilities?
Faith: My position is a design assistant. In this role, I am responsible for refining and creating social media posts and working alongside clients to create websites(UI/UX), campaigns, and logos.
CFA: How did you learn about the internship? What steps did you take to secure the internship?
Faith: I found my internship through BU Handshake and applied there. I applied to only newly posted opportunities to ensure my application would be seen. For my resume and application, I specifically tailored it to fit what the Bajibot was looking for based on my past experiences.
CFA: Any notable accomplishments from the internship?
Faith: Through this internship, I was able to help create campaign websites for AT&T’s Dream in Black campaign, created a web design proposal for Tattooed Chef, organized campaign ideas for Article Furniture, and was able to present them to real-time clients. In this position, I was given various amounts of creative freedom and I’m very thankful Bajibot trusted me in doing so. Making designs and helping create all these extensive projects was new for me in a professional setting but was nonetheless very rewarding.

CFA: In what ways do you think the internship has helped you prepare for your work beyond BU?
Faith: This internship has shown me what it’s like to professionally communicate in a studio environment. It taught me what it’s like working with hard deadlines and the realistic hours of an agency. These opportunities helped me see what I want coming out of college and what to look for when applying to new jobs.

How did the coursework at CFA connect with your internship?
All my studio classes here at BU School of Visual Arts really helped me in terms of collaboration and critique. My courses have taught me to effectively turn around feedback. The range of different classes and projects has helped me be able to adapt to new mediums and techniques quickly and become a well-rounded designer. My classes helped me value the process which was stressed in my internship.
CFA: What did you learn about yourself?
Faith: From this experience, I learned that it’s okay to say no to some opportunities and that it’s important to set boundaries for yourself. Being a full-time student and also interning can be overwhelming at times but, I learned how to manage and optimize my time well while also having free time.
CFA: Any advice for current CFA students beginning the internship process?
Faith: Be open to unexpected opportunities and take internships that can help you learn and advance as a designer. Bajibot focuses a lot on augmented reality and branding which was something I wanted to learn more about and was a clear internship goal of mine.
CFA: What’s next for you?
Faith: What’s next for me is focusing on my thesis! I am not entirely sure what the future holds but I am really excited about the opportunities that will come my way!
