  • Starts: 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2024
  • Ends: 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2024
Join BU Art Galleries for a conversation with artist Laurie Simmons at the Stone Gallery on November 20 at 6:00pm. Laurie will be in conversation with Lauren Graves, assistant curator of special collections at the Boston Athenaeum, to discuss her current exhibition, 1998. Please note that seating is limited, and registration is required.

The exhibition 1998: Works by Laurie Simmons revisits the miniature elements Simmons introduced in her seminal work of the late 1970s. These photographs feature dramatically lit installation views of architectural models filled with furniture and occasional figures.

Laurie Simmons is an American artist, photographer, and filmmaker. Since the mid-1970s, Simmons has staged scenes for her camera using dolls, ventriloquist dummies, objects on legs, and people to create photographs that reference domestic life. She is part of The Pictures Generation, a term used to describe a group of artists who gained prominence in the 1970s, which includes Cindy Sherman, Barbara Kruger, and Louise Lawler.
